Hacking stuff together
Built and run Crowd Card, a crowdsourcing tool for judging in MMA, grappling, and other combat sports. Fans can score every round of a fight on their own scorecards, see aggregated scoring data across all other users on the platform, vote on Fight of the Night, and more! Available on web and mobile.
Recently launched Refology to provide better insights into referee data in the UFC. Other sports, particularly baseball, now rigorously track performance of their referees. While there is still a lot of work to do, I see Refology as an initial step toward improving referee quality in combat sports.
Currently a contributing developer on Silk Pyjamas, an exciting new fantasy pick-ems game for MMA. Available on the web in its MVP state now and coming to mobile soon!
Fascinated by human movement and motor control
I've always been fascinated by human movement - particularly locomotion. I studied exercise and sports science as an undergraduate student before earning a Masters degree and a Ph.D. in biomechanics. I've published extensively on the mechanics and motor control of human movement.
Dedicated athlete
I was a competitive distance runner through high school and as an NCAA Division 1 collegiate athlete. While in college, I competed in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track for four consecutive years, earning All-Conference honors seven times, All-Regional honors once in cross country, and set our school record for the indoor 5000-meter run.
I began training jiujitsu just before turning 30 years old, with no background in grappling or any other combat sport. I currently hold a blue belt, train ~5 times per week, and compete as often as I can. I maintain that trying to get good at jiujitsu has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.
